Columbine had an armed guard.

One armed guard versus multiple shootings at "Gun Free Zones"...the difference in sample sizes don't immediately jump out at you?

And what about Fort Hood, the nation's largest army base, is that a gun free zone? Didn't stop a nut from shooting 30 people and killing 13 there.

And, btw, it's neat that you've created a sock puppet just to argue your pro gun views. Afraid to do it under your normal handle?

"1-1.30pm: Makes his way across the world's biggest military base to the Soldier Readiness Centre, one mile away. Inside, an estimated 300 soldiers, some preparing for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, some recently returned, are awaiting vaccinations and eye checks. They are unarmed, in keeping with military rules on the base, which is the size of a small city. "

If only there had been armed security at Ft. Hood.

If only there had. You may want to go back and actually check on the facts, bubs.

Are you saying there weren't any armed MPs or other security?

Is it possible that the military has figured out that having everyone armed at all times might lead to undesirable consequences?

So there's no armed security or military police at Ft. Hood? Nowhere on the base? Not one of the 50000+ military personnel stationed there has a gun but Major Hasan?

I move to end debate on armed ""volunteers"" in every school in the land and resume the more important discussion of assault weapons bans. And I say we ban assault rifles or prohibit future sales and let those who hug their guns keep them.

See State, Kent

What makes you think Kent State was an "unintended result?"

Remember,

1) Who was president at the time

2) What happened to large organized antiwar protests after Kent State?

They pretty much ended (after the initial wave of reaction protests to the KSU incident itself), because it was clear from that moment on that the establishment was willing to kill.

Are we really arguing that there weren't enough guns around on the world's largest military base?

Nick was not very proud of his son on that day.
