Running NHL 2023-24 regular season thread

Trying not to make any sweeping judgements after just one week, but man, this is shaping up to be an extremely grim season for the Caps. And they really have no recourse to make any real changes with the roster as presently constructed. Joyless so far.

Might have been a little premature on this assessment. Just swept a road back-to-back against the Devils and Islanders and they've looked pretty frisky of late, with a lot of new faces contributing.

Just to add to the story, I was covering the L.A. Kings back then. The first game of the season was against the Whalers and it was played at Springfield while repairs were ongoing in Hartford. They never pinned down the actual start date for games at Hartford. We got to the All-Star break in Detroit, and the Kings played the next night against the Whalers. The small group of Kings all-stars, front office personnel and media who attended the All-Star Game flew from Detroit to Windsor Locks, Conn. But we didn't know whether to go to Springfield or Hartford. Just on a hunch, we decided to go to Hartford and that was the right choice. They played at Hartford. Everybody coming into the arena looked up at the roof before they proceeded on to their seats.

It's a wonder why that franchise would ever move.

How Hartford ever got a big four professional franchise is beyond me. Insurance companies?

Weird thing about Hartford is there are always stories about some down and out city in New England that is a great place for cheap housing or has an artsy appeal. Never heard nothing about Hartford. If I didn't drive to New York, I wouldn't know Hartford existed.

The Mark Twain House is a good tour, especially the haunted billiard room on the top floor where he did most of his writing and where people reportedly still smell the lingering smoke from his cigars. Place gave me the heebie jeebies, a definite recommend.
