And not to get too kooky, but there are some definite paralells between the Giants and the 80 US hockey team. They got one look at the bully before the tournament (though the Giants didn't get waxed like the Americans did); they caught fire at the precise time, and eventually felled said bully by shoving it right down their face.

The Soviets were an elite professional all-star squad that represented the USSR for years, and the Miracle on Ice was comprised of a group of relatively unknown amateur college kids brought together for the 1980 Olympics.

What was the score.... 10-1?

Eli Manning owns New York City. Start spreadin' the damn news. Once you accomplish that, you might as well just go out on top of the world. He can get the hottest babes at Tenjeune, he can get the best table at Cipriani and he will sit center court at Flushing Meadows. It's been all gravy for the Mannings forever, and now Eli can take his seat in the family. [/bandwagon Giants fangirl]

Oh, yeah. And as far as Spygate? 18-1 is karma, and that's a bench.

Tynes couldn't kick his dog in the ass without hitting one of his legs.

That's gold, and every time I picture it happening, I laugh a little more.

So, I've learned two things after tonight's game:

1) The Patriots are the greatest 18-1 team in the history of the NFL. No one will EVER take that away from them.

2) Coach Hoodie is a reeeeeeeeal classy guy stalking away from the field when there's still time on the clock. Yeah, I know the game was all but over, he already had shook hands and he's never given any indication that he'd do something that resembles sportsmanship, but would it kill ya to wait 30 more seconds? Would it?

Oh, Billy Simmons is probably curled up in a fetal position in LA. I am pleased with this.

I think the 85 Bears and 84 Niners would have something to say about this.

The Giants D was overpowering. The pass rush was there from the start to the end. I bet they knocked Brady down more than in any other game this year.

They were getting killed by the Welker dump off but on the last drive, they finally stuffed him. Nice change.

Moss, I saw his quitting in person last year in Oakland but he played hard to the end. It wasn't like he was alligator arms or dogging routes, they covered him and he ran hard the last couple of plays, in fact all of his deep routes. He almost came up with the great catch at the end but it was deflected (I know, close only counts in .....pregnancies). Would have been a nice story but that's okay.

Glad for Eli. He got hammered in NY and he never blew his top. Hard to do.

Someone said its a great day for Archie (and his wife too). As the father of two sons, I can pretend to know how special that feeling would be. Nice to see Peyton support his brother in the way he did too.

All I know is, I'm happy. So so happy. Thank you, Jints!

Gostkowski is only 6-10 career from 40+.

However, seeing Belichick's arrogance, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he just though his offence couldn't be stopped.

From Vaccaro's blog (yeah, BLOGS!!!):
Amazing.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – One final time, the football was in the air, one last desperate heave into the unforgiving teeth of destiny. This is what the Giants had reduced the big, bad Patriots to. This was all that remained of 18-0, one final Hail Mary throw that never had a prayer, never had a chance, fell harmlessly to the grass.

There should be a word to describe what happened next at University of Phoenix Stadium, to describe what it sounded like exactly one second later, at precisely 8:05 p.m. local time, 10:05 back in New York. There should be a feeling to describe the joy that exploded on the Giants sideline when Eli Manning took his celebratory knee, freezing forever the impossible numbers on the scoreboard:

Giants 17.

Patriots 14.
Good stuff, Mike.

I love that nobody can say the Pats gave this one away. The Giants beat their ass ... This should also end the Brady-Montana talk. Joe Cool never lost a SB.

Throughout the regular season, you could make the argument to go for it on fourth down. But the Pats' offense has struggled in the post-season and were awful tonight. There's no way you don't kick the field goal. Belichick's arrogance cost the the Super Bowl.
