The Soccer thread (Part II)

I think Red Star had seven players booked in that game. Seems as though both teams played a 4-5-1, with Rangers not wanting to give up an away goal and Red Star happy to play a preventitve game to get a draw.

I think Benfica gets through, although Copenhagen is a decent team. Not so sure about Lazio.

More fun and game tomorrow with Arsenal, Liverpool and Celtic all trying to grab away goals.

By the way, the BBC online headline says "Everton See Off Sorry Spurs", and Soccernet's insider said pretty much the same in its column on the game. Not what Beaker and White Hart Lane were looking for.

Yup, most of the reports I've read said Red Zvezda was extremely negative. Rangers playing so conservatively at home puzzles me, though it really shouldn't, given who's in charge.

In other news, Wee Gordon is laying the foundation for a forgettable performance in Moscow:

DeRosario mis-hit a shot so badly it went off his chin. Fortunately for Houston, it still ended up in the net for a 1-0 Dynamo lead after four minutes.

Unfortunately for Houston, that was some nice movement from Pachuca to tie it up.

That man just does not do easy shots.

Down to 10 men, this is going to be hard for Houston. They'll probably need to do something from a set-piece to have a chance at retaking the lead.

REFEREE/ARBITRO: Roberto Moreno (PAN)

Yeah, this won't end well.

It looks like there are going to be some very tired legs taking penalties tonight.

Great game, and I'm sure Houston is happy to get to penalties.

UPDATE: But they go out anyway. What the heck was Ngwena thinking with that effort? Blast the bloody thing, don't let the goalie know what you're going to do and let him bale out of his dive.

On the bright side, it does mean we get an MLS-Mexican First Division final, which should be fun. If L.A. wins tomorrow, maybe Donovan will show up for the final.

Good. I wasn't the only one that thought that was a terrible idea for a penalty kick, especially with it tied and you are the fifth kicker. fork. shirt. Houston played a great game to get to that point and Ngwena decides to try a bizarre chip shot and then the Pachuca goalie gives him the Mutombo finger wave after denying him.

That was a pathetic attempt-he basically just handed it to the Pachuca goalie. Thats what you get for trying something so damn cheeky.
