2017 college football coaching carousel thread

He's still got an 18-months show-cause thing attached to him right?

Kelly's show cause expired in 2014.

So there are 4 SEC openings right now: Ole Miss, Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas.

There will be 5 by noon Sunday when Texas A&M fires Kevin Sumlin.

If Vanderbilt gets pummeled by Tennessee, Derek Mason might get sent packing. That would be 6. (Yeah, it's Vandy, but Mason is his own defensive coordinator and the Commodores have allowed an average of 46 points in SEC games).

And if Gus Malzahn jumps to Arkansas and Dan Mullen jumps to Florida or Tennessee, that would be 8 SEC teams (out of 14) changing coaches.

Only Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri and LSU will almost certainly have the same head coaches in 2018 that they have now.

That was some SEC speed by Arkansas to can Bielema right after he walked off the field. He still did postgame press conference too. Pretty damn well considering he'd been fired minutes earlier.

As noted in the Week 13 thread, he said he was informed of his dismissal as he was still walking off the field. I guess the athletic department was afraid they'd fall behind in recruiting if they let him get to the locker room first.

EDIT: What would have been even better was if he came to the locker room door and they had a security guard stop him and say "Sorry, only football team personnel are allowed in here."

If Auburn loses the Iron Bowl, I expect the Gus Bus pointed toward the Ozarks Sunday morning.

I was skeptical at first, but others have convinced me Gus wants to come home.

Interesting the interim AD at Arkansas said she would be making final call on the coach. I just wonder which mega-booster is really calling the shots - John Tyson, Jerry Jones or Warren Stephens.

I keep hearing all this talk about Jimbo Fisher to aTm. Sumlin's buyout is $11m, and Fisher's is $39m. Who is the booster that wants Jimbo badly enough to cough up fifty million dollars to hire him?

We've taken our shots at Big Bert here - many times for good reasons - but I thought he handled that post-firing presser with as much class as you could and then some.

Although...

Did anyone here see the dirty hit on the second half kickoff? Arkansas player targeted a Mizzou player who was on the kicking team.

If I was AD and knew Bert was toast, I might have walked down and fired him during the targeting review. What a statement about the program.

There are two buyouts. One the school owes the coach if he is fired without cause, the other the coach owes the school if he leaves for another job.

FSU owes Jimbo $39 million if he is fired. It's considerably less if he leaves to take another job, something like $10 million.

Likewise, Nick Saban gets $26 million if Alabama fires him. If Saban leaves to take another job, he owes nothing.
