2025-26 College basketball coaching carousel

Is there a world in which Chris Beard goes to Indiana? Then the Ole Miss job comes open. If they want Wade, I'm guessing they get him because Ole Miss money >>>>> NC State money.
I think that Beard's troubles at Texas have pushed him down the list a bit at Indiana and Beard is only a default candidate. My guess the school would want someone with a pristine public image such as T.J. Otzelberger. However, I could see Beard getting the job as a second or third choice.

TJ Otzelberger's new contract runs through 2032 but drops his buyout obligation from $18.2 M to $4 M if he leaves. Curious. Affordable for a suitor.

Ben Johnson out at Minnesota after four thoroughly underwhelming seasons:

Dang it.

A friend of mine is a HC for a non-power 4 conference program. If he would have won 20 games this year at his program, he would have been on the shortlist for Miami and, now, Minnesota.

Instead, injuries and transfers killed him this year. Won 12 instead of 20.

That's how delicate the coaching world is. I find it fascinating.

It really is. We're probably going to have one of these domino scenarios unfold pretty quickly somewhere. The kind where one guy gets whacked and the ripple effect is felt all the way to some high school in Trumpmenistan, Mississippi or some such place.

The domino effect last year that led Cal from Kentucky to Arkansas probably happens every other year to an extent, if someone is enterprising enough to trace them all in the past.

Indeed.
The dominoes may be mitigated by the trend of hiring NBA guys. But it's still interesting.

That should do it for Kyle Neptune, who will miss the NCAA Tournament for the third time in as many seasons. Took Jay Wright four years to get to the NCAAT, but that was a long time ago.
