The hit on Kevin Stevens in 93, by Rich Pilon, ended up awful, but it wasn't really dirty. The hit as I recall wasn't much out of the ordinary but it so happened Pilon had a half-shield on and Stevens didn't; the shield caught Stevens in the face and knocked him cold, causing him to fall directly on to his face.

That could be. I haven't watched it in a while and I was watching it from the biased perspective of a Pished off Penguins fan.
