David Granger Out At Esquire

Was listening to Pandora in the hospital the other day, and a Kris Kristofferson song came on.

I was reminded of, and looked up to confirm for my mother-in-law, his "big break" story in which, as a guy looking to break into the Nashville songwriting business, he landed a helicopter in Johnny Cash's yard. (He had flown helicopters in Vietnam.)

Cash ends up recording Sunday Morning Coming Down, and wins the CMA's Song of the Year for it.

That's some big balls.
Kris Kristofferson was also a Rhodes Scholar, so I think he would have landed on his feet no matter what.

Kristofferson is a pretty incredible guy, and he may have done well in life without the helicopter stunt, but he may have never become a successful songwriter, which was his goal.

I've been thinking this board has been going down in quality for some time, but I have a renewed enthusiasm about our new crowdsourced Kris Kristofferson profile project.

And Mac Davis, back when you could be a singer (of sorts) and work in film, too.

I was wondering if he was confusing Kristofferson and Mac Davis, or if it was a joke that flew right by me. I am still not sure.
