Very cool. So much of that was the soundtrack to our life here in Toronto in the 80s. It wasn't a summer if you didn't see Kim Mitchell at least once (I had his first solo album cranked up the other day, still sounds great) and I remember a show in the summer of 1984 with Honeymoon Suite (local heroes who won the Q107 Homegrown Contest) and Corey Hart opening for April Wine. One of my first dates with my wife was at a Sass Jordan concert. My cassette case in the late '80s/early '90s showed a weird affinity for Canadian rock for a kid from the lower midwestern US. Honeymoon Suite, Triumph, April Wine, Kim Mitchell, the Headpins, Alannah Myles, Sass Jordan.
Yeah, this shit talk about Loverboy will cease.
Triumph were Toronto boys who were huge in Canada - and in some areas in the US - and one of the biggest bands when I was in high school. They were fucking shit, warmed over Zeppelin riffs and a thoroughly unimaginative cover of Rocky Mountain Way.
But they also had this rave up:
Someone made a Rush/Triumph comparison earlier. Always thought the cheese-tastic "Magic Power" was Triumph's attempt at "Spirit of Radio."Lay It On the Line is their magnum opus. And it was cool that Rik Emmett used to perform in a Detroit Redwings jersey.
That and "Wind Him Up" are among the most unintentionally hilarious early music videos. How about Saga....and their hit "On the Loose."
They were pretty big in the US too for a hot minute.Supertramp was another band that was really big in Canuckistan compared to the US, my brother was a big fan and played that shit all the time. They have one good song: Goodbye Stranger
