He was the last college player to play without a helmet.
He played in the NFL, ended up basically stiffing the Steelers in a trade for a draft choice that turned into Sid Luckman, then went into the service and played for St. Mary's (Preflight School) during WWII.
He taught biology at Berkeley High School for 30 years (ova, indeed)!
That's frickin' awesome.
The Pirates made dumb trades even in 1938.
