Why take the safety off the board?

I assume it's because of the chance to avoid anything wrong in the final 30 seconds -- injury, miracle comeback, whatevs.

I can also assume there are a whole lot of people losing their shirt right now because they had 49ers minus 7 or 7 1/2.

Yup, you're right. I thought the line was a lot closer than that, but looks like it closed at 7.5.

Wowzer.

Why leave it on the board? Games over, you take the safety the Seahawks can onside kick.

In a nine-point game with 43 seconds to go. Big deal.
Tell the players getting blown up on the onside kick that it's not a big deal.

Always assumed you had to punt the free kick. Never saw it another way. But the rules do state a placekick without a tee is legal. Still, I hope the Niners lose a playoff tiebreaker by a point.

Uhh, he didn't take the safety because it was the fastest and easiest way to win. Don't take it and you are in victory formation, take it and you have to defend an onside kick and then perhaps send your heralded defense back on the field.

What is more likely to happen: a team loses up by 7 when in victory formation or a team loses a touchdown+FG lead with under a minute?
