If the Yankees decide not to bring Torre back, who would make the best replacement?

Without question they have to find someone that can mitigate fallout as well as Torre does/did. He may have destroyed the arms and careers of many a middle reliever, but he was an expert at killing controversies and deflecting unwanted attention from the players. There were a few exceptions, of course, but Rodriguez brought that ship on himself.

I'm surprised these names haven't come up yet: Larry Bowa & Tony Pena.

Might look for an interim older guy (Baker? La Russa?) and wait for Scioscia to run his course with the Angels.

Oh yeah that'd work. Bring in Dusty Baker to a team teeming with young power arms. Nothing bad can happen.

LaRussa would explode in NY.

I made those jokes earlier tonight if that counts. I'm not so sure Jeter would take too kindly to seeing the postgame spread flipped over.

Well, Tony at least can take the subway after drinking instead of Metrolink.

I'm just happy Torre is one step closer to taking over in KC and bringing A-Rod with him.
Who gives a ship how inept Rodriguez is in the playoffs? He won't have to worry about that in KC.

They should do whatever it takes to buy Joe Maddon from the Devil Rays. He's a great manager and has the perfect temperament to handle that job. Plus the guy's flat-out brilliant.
