Quotes you love/live by

High school basketball coach: "We played really well. If basketball didn't involve shooting, we would won easily."

High school baseball coach Benny Lefebvre, father of Jimmy: "Baseball is the great equalizer. On a given day, I could take my team over to USC and we could beat 'em. In football, no way."

This quote from Leo Rosten was my mom's. I learned from the Rabbi's eulogy at her funeral last November that she carried a copy in her purse:

"I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be 'happy'. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compashionate. It is, above all, to matter; to count, to stand for something, to have made a difference that you lived at all."
That's really, really good. Thanks for posting.

"This life is hard, man, and it's harder if you're stupid."

Abridged, probably without knowledge of the above, by a former ME, when he found out a staffer had "broken" big news on his private Twitter rather than having the paper own the news: "This work is hard enough ... ."
