Running 2025 golf thread

And those latter two tournaments will still blow anything LIV has out of the water.

It's not really an apples-to-apples comparison until LIV gets on main Fox, which will happen later in the year. Will they win? No, but up against the Tour's events with side-of-a-milk-carton fields, it might not be a rout.

A young woman from my neck of the woods (NorCal) just won her first LPGA tourney today. Go Ms. Noh!!

From Concord! We were cheering her on from the course. Huge crowd for hometown favorite Nelly Korda but otherwise we could get right up close.

Also, best thing about the day might have been the free 10-minute lesson with an LPGA pro. She found at least four issues with my takeaway and offered great suggestions to work on next time I am at the range.

That's great!! Unfortunately it looked like you could get right next to them because there was no one around. Go Concord!

The LPGA has a quality product but no traction. I doubt there were 2,000 people on the course yesterday for a $2 million purse, which means NBC and the presenting sponsor are not only subsidizing the entire tournament but Bradenton Country Club got little if anything out of hosting. I'm guessing the hundreds of volunteers enjoyed it -- although the poor man manning the 12th tee box at the other end of the course was like a Maytag repairman -- but we wound up in more beach traffic afterward than people leaving the parking lot.

Same with the NHRA the day before.

And I can't imagine the sports editor at the Bradenton rag. Nothing to cover 11 months of the year -- I'm ashuming they do a lot during Pirates exhibition season -- and the two big events are on the same weekend.

That event has been through the wringer the last few years. Was last called the Cognizant Founders Cup and played in New Jersey, but the sponsor bailed and the tournament ended up in Florida with a smaller purse because of no title sponsor. But at least it was played, unlike a tournament next month in California that was recently canceled because the underwriter failed to pay the LPGA.

The LPGA really needs to nail its next choice for commissioner.

I guess the audience is really misogynistic? I changed from PGA to LPGA because it was a runaway and it was like I turned on the local US Open qualifier. Bummer because they are really good.

Tiger WDs from Genesis, says not ready after mom's death.
Having gone through losing a parent (2 yrs ago), I will never judge anyone for how they deal with their experience. I can only imagine what losing your mom would be like when she was the primary parent (Earl not the greatest if reports are/were correct).

No doubt. Wonder if he somehow felt pressure to commit last Friday for the sake of the Tour, his foundation, etc., then over the weekend obviously changed his mind.

I don't think it's misogyny. Pro golf is super niche, as you know, and women's golf drills that niche down even more. Maybe if Nelly is threatening on that leaderboard yesterday, it would have drawn more eyeballs. By the time I tuned in, Noh was three shots up and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. NBC/GC also just pinatas the LPGA around, never giving it consistent oxygen. The new commish's first order of business has to be figuring out the broadcast situation. Every player I've talked to says the same thing.

Also, there's probably a little racism involved, more so than misogyny. It's still a Tour dominated by a lot of Asian names and -- especially now in America -- that's a recipe for a quick tune out. If they can even find the broadcast...
