The harshest takedown of a pop music star that's also the safest possible critique ever

Guy Fieri was responsible for two of the most brutal restaurant reviews ever.

Restaurant Review: Guy's American Kitchen & Bar in Times Square

The Times review went viral, but I really liked this one just as much:

The Crispy Crimes of Guy Fieri: Junk Food T.V. Star Takes Times Square

I'd never eat at one of his restaurants. But when I'm traveling, I do check to see if DDD has visited any restaurants in that city. I have yet to be disappointed by choosing meals that way.

I think the NY Times review actually had the opposite effect of scaring people away. A lot of people went there out of curiosity. Could it really be that bad? The restaurant lasted 5 years, and closed at the end of last year.

Small sample size, but Guy did a local joint and raved about it.

I was pretty familiar with the place and the food was great back in the day, but by the time DDD filmed there it was beyond awful.

I don't begrudge Guy his spot. I've come around on him a bit, but don't consider him on the level of someone like Alex G.

We watch GGG and the ranch thing. Great way to get that outdoor kitchen paid for.

He found his niche and he's working it.

I've said it somewhere here before, but I've gone to a good handful of spots that were on DDD in several different states, a couple sought out on vacation, and almost all were average at best. Some weren't good at all. Someone responded that the restaurants were probably good at some point but had a hard time keeping up. Who knows. Went to a place in Seattle this summer that was a good little lunch spot downtown days before it was on DDD, the had advertisements of a watch party posted, and it was actually pretty darn good. Wonder if they'll keep it up?

Most of the judges on Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay(the first two judges) are beyond annoying. Beat Bobby Flay would be more entertaining if there were only judges at the end of the show..

Beat Bobby Flay would be way more entertaining if that's what you actually got to do.

But his Gato restaurant in NYC is pretty damn good.

He did a segment on a Mexican place in my neighborhood. He said it may have been the best taco he ever had.

I could list 10 better taco places within 3 miles of the place.

Can we now talk about the influx of kids in cooking shows?

Chopped Jr, Master Chef Jr and the like.

I've nothing against kids, but I am not going to watch kids cook. I don't care that they may very well be a better cook than me, I just don't care.

And kids judging on cooking shows?

Umami.

I've been to my share of all kinds of joints including some with foodies.

I'd like to understand umami, feel and taste it, but I can't say I'm there.

I'm taking my dad to Red Robin for lunch tomorrow. I'll look for it there.
