WNBA thread… 28.5 ain’t your pay cut

If someone on the Knicks went 1-for-19 from the floor in a winner take all game, the cloud of profanity would blot out the sun all the way to Poughkeepsie.

That already happened in '94. Fucking John Starks. Fucking 2-for-18 bullshit.

Enjoy your day off - singular - before the start of the next professional basketball season!

New York Liberty were left to rot in Westchester under the Dolan ownership Nets ownership have done an amazing job resurrecting this franchise

The commissioner wearing a dress with the New York skyline was a nice touch.

The missed travel and awful foul call on Stewart was a ridiculous combo but the Lynx scoring 28 points in second half and OT…yuck. Collier moves nonstop on offense but was definitely exhausted in OT though I wish she still would have gotten some looks instead of Williams playing hero ball.

Kind of had 2010 Lakers-Celtics Game 7 vibes. Great drama, awful offensive basketball.

Ionescu had to keep shooting, she's one of greatest shooters ever. Curry wasn't great in 2016 Gm 7, you gotta keep shooting. Sabrina passed up a lot of looks at end.

McBride is who should have been getting looks.

Women's stumble and fall more than I think they should and that affects the aesthetics.

Ionescu was a legendary flopper in college, guaranteed 5-10 times a game.

I didn't take it as her complaining so much as highlighting the ridiculousness of the pay disparity that exists in the W.

She's obviously doing fine with her endorsements. But she's also a star athlete in a major metropolitan area and the team salary is ridiculously low. Could she find something cheaper? Of course, but I doubt it would be adequate for the security/privacy needs of someone with her level of celebrity.

Elena Delle Donne lives a couple of doors down from my brother-in-law in a D.C. suburb. Her house is really nice, and way more expensive than one could afford on just the high end veteran WNBA salary. But it's still a relatively modest home. And it stands out for the level of security. Only one or two other homes in the neighborhood are completely gated off.

Their team salaries are about to go way up, though, when they opt out of the CBA in a couple of weeks, because there's finally money there with the new t.v. contract, the big increase in fan attendance and the addition of more games.

What's the pay disparity and where is the money for the increased team salaries coming from if the league doesn't make money?

The real answer to becoming profitable is a longer season, but I wonder if the NBA wants the competition between the leagues. Or fit another 10 games or so into the season. Most years you don't have an Olympic break to contend with.

Well, they didn't have to take a month-long break for the Olympics. Rookies probably welcomed it, though.
