2023 College Football Coaching Carousel thread

Not much of a shock - he was moved up after the sudden death of Leach - I don't know if Leach would have done much better this year himself - but maybe they think they can grab Jimbo at a discount and who might just want to stick around the SEC.

First time I can remember both coaches being fired in the aftermath of a mid-season game.

They don't have high expectations at Mississippi State. Win eight games a year, regularly beat Ole Miss, throw in the occasional win over LSU or Auburn that gets you to nine or 10 wins and a New Year's bowl, and you'll be good for a decade.
Zach Arnett was underperforming even that low bar. Not only are they unlikely to make a bowl game, they're just plain boring. They've scored two offensive touchdowns in their last four games. You can get with that if you're hitting the other benchmarks by selling it as hard-nosed defense. But when you're a defensive coach and your defense sucks as well, it breeds discontent.
Always hate seeing a guy get blown out less than one season in, but there was definitely a feeling among the fanbase that Arnett was promoted too soon and was in over his head as a head coach.

I always felt like anyone Mississippi State put in after Leach's death was a temporary band aid anyways.
I figured they'd cut him some slack given the tragic circumstances. Weirdly enough, State has arguably the league's best non conference win (vs Arizona).

Yeah, but his buyout is low, and this lets them do a coach search at a more traditional time. As I said in the other thread, I think the portal opening soon is a big factor in the early firings. AD's want their guy in place to shop for guys that can fit into areas of need when players become available.

Mississippi State football in general is a mess zac selmon has got this
