2024-25 College Basketball Thread

Looks to me that this is only the second day in the 76-year history of the AP poll in which multiple unranked visitors have beaten Top-12 opponents by ≥ 10. Only other occurred five years ago to the day, when Xavier won at No. 10 Seton Hall 74-62 and Creighton claimed a 76-61 win at No. 8 Villanova.

Calipari always pulls one giant upset each year that enrages the maximum amount of people - sometimes including his own fans.

And yes … another year, another WCC After Dark slugfest between Gonzaga and Saint Mary's.

The Gaels have dominated but have only made 4-of-14 FTs, keeping a desperate Zags team within striking distance at halftime.

FSU led BC by seven with 40 seconds left and did exactly what Kansas did a week ago: threw away an in-bounds pash that was stolen and immediately turned into a 3-pointer. This one gave the Eagles a 77-76 win.

As to Duke-UNC, this is your occasional reminder that the meeting of Tar Heels and Blue Devils is no more likely to produce a close game than any other ACC series. About one of every three is decided by ≤ 5 or in OT. Right in line with the historical league average.
But to the WWL, it's like Red Sox-Yankees, so must be hyped ad infinitum.

As great of a win as it was for Calipari personally, the Hogs are buried pretty deep in the SEC. Arkansas needs another six or seven of these, right?
At least. It's going to make their season, but if your season is made by a win that doesn't get you into the tournament or occur in the tournament, your opponent had a better year than you did.

Honestly, it will be interesting to see where they rise in NET. They were 59th coming into today and Kentucky was 10th

They won't be favored in all of these, but I can realistically see Arkansas getting five more wins off of Texas (2x), LSU, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Pencil in one more out-of-nowhere upset and that gets them to 8-10 in league. I've been saying that should be enough to get a team in with the league so loaded, but they might need a ninth. Michigan was their only non-conference win of note.

With expansion, Sad Wednesday at the conference tournament will balloon to four games this year. Right now the 12-13 game could legitimately be for a bubble bid.

Saint Mary's holds off Gonzaga, 62-58, to improve to 20-3. Gaels 10-0 in the league and basically just clinched the WCC regular season title.

Gonzaga has two stud players in Nembhard and Ike, but needed a third player to make a big shot or two tonight and no one did. Zags now have four conference losses. They may need to win the WCC tourney to keep their NCAA streak alive.
