2024-25 College Basketball Thread

UC San Diego, 23-4 and 40th in KenPom, has a chance to be 30-5 as an at-large candidate. They'll never get in. They're one of the ~ 25 teams outside the power conferences that have not played a power conference team. So their non-conference SoS is 220. That, when combined with their status as a Division I newbie, dooms them. But it will be interesting to see Bubba and Co have to exclude a 30-win team while taking an underachieving Tar Heel club. And that might happen if the Tritons lose the Big West final.

And right on cue, Dayton loses at Loyola Chicago and drops to 76 in the NET, so bye bye VCU's only Q1 win. Can't wait for this Mason game today. It's Homecoming, and half of the fan base stayed home on Wednesday because of the early start and snow in the area. The Stu is going to be rockin' today.

Interesting to who?

For all the grief we give ESPN, they've started coming back around on showing games from non-glamour leagues. Today alone ESPNU has games from the MAC, OVC, Missouri Valley and WAC.

Bill Raftery remains a national treasure.

Oh to be a fly on the wall at whatever bar he walks into and starts telling stories. I can't even imagine.

Yes, the tournament would just not be the same without 10 Big Ten, 10 SEC and 10 ACC teams.

If you go by Jerry Palm's projections, which are just as good as any, the 10th SEC team in would be No. 10 seed Vanderbilt. The Commodores may yet play their way off the bubble but as of today they absolutely belong. Just above them are Ole Miss and Mississippi State as 5 seeds.

The ACC won't even make it to five teams and might get as low as three. If they have a bid thief, it will mean Wake Forest getting shoved off the bubble for good.

IDK, looks to me as if Vandy has a lot of Q3 and Q4 wins because of a terrible OOC schedule, and nice wins over Tennessee and Kentucky. Other than that, their resume is mighty thin and they are 1-5 in their last six games.

The top of the SEC is very good, no question. But all we heard last season was what an absolute monster the league was, then Auburn, Miss State, Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina all got waxed on opening day of the tournament, with Auburn losing to that noted powerhouse from Yale. Then A&M went out in the round of 32.

This season is Missouri's best chance to reach the Final Four in at least 20 years — or 30 or 40 or maybe ever. Pessimism runs deep, though, so I won't hold my breath.

I saw that live. At first I thought maybe he broke his nose but there was no geyser of blood so I knew that was wrong.
