I mentioned in the concert thread that I see MJ Lenderman in less than two weeks in a.small NC club. I just can't wait. I think the guy is a real writer.

This is about the Jordan Flu Game. Fucking brilliant. The guy can absolutely write.

This is "Hangover Game." But "She's Leaving You" is absolutely devastating.

Love the guy.

I just recently discovered Sammy Rae and the Friends. I usually like to listen to an artist a lot in the leadup to seeing them live, but nine days before seeing MJ Lenderman, here I am obsessed with Sammy Rae and The Friends.

A mix of rock, soul, funk, jazz and everything else, they're known for high energy shows and have immediately gone on my "See Them Live" list.

Two early favorites: "Jackie Onassis," about a first crush and love, and "Thieves," which is an absolute banger, anti-authority song from their new album that came out in September, "Something for Everybody". Hope you enjoy:

An old friend was big into J Geils, when Peter Wolf acted as a kind of emcee. It always reminded me of the shows Johnny Otis put on for many years.
