If Rogers is in a position to need, or even really notice, that salary for next year, he's got problems.
Considering that (a) after taxes/agent fees/etc. it would be considerably less than $58 million, (b) he would be putting himself at a non-zero risk of debilitating injury or decreased quality of the rest of his life every time he steps on the field, and (c) from a distance he appears to be a legitimately weird and unhappy person, it would be easy for me to see him turning it down.
I get that everybody's circumstances are different, but you're basically talking about him having a winning Powerball ticket in his hand, throwing it in the trash saying, "Nah, I don't need that. I'm good."
If he's ready to retire, good for him. Playing quarterback in the NFL is not a job you can mentally half-ass, for your own safety if nothing else. It just astonishes me how we think of these guys as not "needing" another large eight-figure paycheck. Everybody could stand to add that to their bank account for a year's worth of work.
