NFL Week 11 thread -- scramble up some Eggs Manske

This might sound dumb, but on fourth-and-32 from their own 2, would the Steelers have been better off taking a safety and then trying to recover an onside kick on the free kick?
The two points doesn't hurt you, and the odds of recovering an onside kick are at least as good as converting that fourth down, right?

Aren't safety free kicks from the 20? Still have to go just 10 yards on an onside kick?

Horrible no-call.

Which play are you talking about? The blows to the heads of Harris and Sutton that weren't called were inexcusable. I actually don't have a problem with them picking up the flag on the pash interference before Boswell's go-ahead field goal. That ball was well short.

The Steelers' lack of depth just ruined them tonight. The defense is a disaster without Watt, Fitzpatrick, and Haden. I agree that no way that last touchdown happens if Fitzpatrick is on the field.

Having to play Haeg at guard killed that last drive. He was beaten badly on both sacks and that was the ball game.

The guy who had LAC -5.5 was thinking the same thing.

I think so. Either play is a longshot, but if there wasn't anything deep down the field it would have at least given them another play.
Moot point now, of course.

It didn't look like it was interference, either. The DB had some hands on him, but it didn't seem enough to affect the route at all. The WR's little herky-jerky dance was a nice bit of play acting to make it look like he was coming back to the ball when he was really turning outside.

Yes. I thought that would have given them a refresh of sorts.

Shanahan, McVey, Belichick's kid, Arthur Smith (you don't stay in the same town through three different coaching regimes without some pull in the front office - sponsor relations), - i'm not even sure its nepotism so much as having family situations that will allow you to work for nothing and spend 70 hours a week in a football office. See also, Washington DC internships.

I've never understood how TV networks operate like the local tire shop when it comes to hiring decisions. You really don't see that in major newspapers. Bush daughter, Chelsea Clinton, Collinsworth's kid, Doocey's kid (who really isn't a bad reporter - but how he got there...), Russert's kid, etc.
Local stations too. Lead sports reporter at Boston's ABC affiliate is Duke Castiglione, who is terrible. He is also the son of longlongtime Red Sox radio play by play man Joe Castiglione, a super nice man.

It's most disappointing when the person who benefits from nepotism actually has talent but skips the line. They never get the journey of working their way up or knowing if it was due to talent or daddy. It's robbing that young person of finding out what they're actually made of.

I think I'd rather fail on my own account than be haunted by doubts that it was because of my dad. It seemed to weigh on Joe Buck for a long time.
