Possible Torre successor

If the Yankees decide not to bring Torre back, who would make the best replacement?

If I see Waldman donning the pinstripes, I'm gonna bust a cap in her faux-Yankee-homer ash, along with the rest of the Yankees front office.

Even though I think Girardi would be a far better manager (as would Bobby Valentine), I think it will be Mattingly. I don't think Girardi would take a job with Mattingly as his bench coach and I'm close to certain he wouldn't even entertain the idea of being Mattingly's bench coach.
 
I think they are going to go with Don Mattingly because it will probably be the most popular thing to do - at least until the Yankees lose three games in a row.
