For Washington's sake, I sure hope the Angels vetted his very interesting past. Otherwise, I wouldn't be stunned if there's a Wally Backman situation here.

I know Washington's drug issues were years ago, but this is a franchise that has been implicated in the overdose death of one of its player, so they have to tread lightly.

Yeah, I was stunned they went in this direction. But the Angels are always gonna Angels.

He's older than Terry Francona, who retired because he's old.

Francona is 64 going on 84 but also has two World Series rings, a rock-solid HOF legacy, a spate of grandkids to hang out with and, presumably, a lot of money in the bank (I think most of his Cleveland money was made post-divorce). Washington doesn't need any one to hold a bake sale for him, but he's got no kids, is nine years removed from resigning b/c of infidelity (and the previous issues) and just watched the Rangers win the World Series that he couldn't in 2011. He needs this gig, as short-lived as it's likely to be with the Angels being a dumpster fire.

I understand from Washington's end. Not from the Angels' side. Except for the fact that they are dum-dums. Does this mean Mike Schildt is next up for Padres??
