Running 2023-24 Hot Stove Thread

Seems like a big swing and miss for the Mets. Seemed pretty clear they wanted Counsell. Understandable if he stayed with his hometown Brewers.

But losing out to the Cubs? Not great for Stearns and Cohen's money. I can't and won't judge the Mendoza hire. Because like a lot of people, I really know nothing about him.

heck, why didn't they just keep Showalter?

Oy, Mets.

They're the LOLMets, now and forever. What a debacle for Stearns.

I like the wish list idea. My wish list for the Yankees:
Soto
Yamamoto
Any batter (preferably left handed) with a sub-.200 k rate.
Someone who wants to trade for Stanton.
My wish list for the Yankees:
  • The asteroid.
  • A giant sinkhole opens up underneath New Yankee Stadium (preferably during a series against the Sawx).

Ah dang it. Love Washington. Huge loss for the Braves. But at the same time, I am glad he's getting another shot.

But will he have Ohtani to work with???

For Washington's sake, I sure hope the Angels vetted his very interesting past. Otherwise, I wouldn't be stunned if there's a Wally Backman situation here.

As an Angels fan, I'm happy with the hire, although realizing there's a lot more to be done. And I'm not really expecting to have Ohtani back.
I think it's been pointed out on here (or on the Angelswin board) Washington will turn 72 a month into the season, so we're definitely not getting a Mike Scioscia-length tenure. However, names like Torii Hunter, Darin Erstad, and Benji Gil were mentioned as under consideration early on; making one of those guys a bench coach to learn the ropes under Washington would not be a bad idea.
