Running 2023-24 Hot Stove Thread

Are there ANY managers in baseball with three years left on their contract? I was surprised when the Phillies only gave their interim a tw0-year deal after he took over and LED THE TEAM TO THE WORLD SERIES!!! You see teams let their managers just walk away like Craig Counsell did to Chicago, Melvin to SF. I realize it is a GMs game now, and managers are devalued - but goodness. Bochy, a HOF LOCK, was only able to get a three-year deal out of the Rangers - I hope he earned an extension at least.

Ah - must drop George Brett reference. I still don't know what is more hilarious - the players walking away and Brett continuing the story, him ending it with "true story" or quickly pivoting to "Whos the pitchers in this game?"

Brewers didn't let Counsell walk away. His contract expired, they tried to negotiate during the season and after. Gave him permission to talk to others because he was going to do it anyway. Offered him highest managerial pay ever. He left for money Milwaukee couldn't or wouldn't pay.

Teams that leave their manager or coach hanging on a final year of their contract shouldn't be surprised when they walk. I'd like to think Counsell's deal will give managers a little more leverage.
