Things that suck...and one thing that helps when things suck

My things that suck are a little too weighty for this thread.

What doesn't suck is the QuikTrip near me putting in a new coffee station with nitro taps that deliver coffee flavors without me having to add or mix anything and at half the price of Starbucks or less. That's doesn't suck at all.

Things that suck: America today and the prospect of the next 4 years. Having to tell my kids it will be all right when I don't think it will be. Also, since Dixiehack brought it up, it really sucks not having a QuikTrip anywhere near me.

Things that don't suck: Got a new set of wedges for Christmas, and going to retreat to the garage and regrip them tonight. The prospect of naps in a big comfy recliner with my 2 rescue dogs most evenings. Having a secure, well-paying job in an industry and for a company that I believe in. Going to give my grill and smoker their annual deep cleaning this weekend, so I'll have a clean palate to work with.

my wife's short hairstyle made me laugh out loud. Awesome, stuff.

When we were dating and first married in our 20s and into our 30s, she had beautiful long hair down to nearly her waist. She usually wore it in a ponytail, which I also liked for variety. Occasionally, especially when the kids weee young, she would cut it to slightly below her shoulders, which would depress me for a while, but she would grow it back. And I understood that it could be annoying when dealing with kids.

In her 40s, the super-long hair is gone, and she's mostly kept it slightly below her shoulders. No more ponytails. Occasionally it would get longer, I would get happier, and then she'd declare that she was cutting it again. Her last hairstyle from a few weeks ago barely touches her shoulders. Not a fan. Even a couple of her friends said it wasn't the best hairstyle on her.

Oh well. On the other hand, I'm majorly balding, so who am I to talk?

The major things that suck in my life is my wife bitching about ship that don't mean nothing about nothing:
The head of the Coast Guard got fired BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN! How does that affect our lives?
You didn't get to play Little League in 1977 BECAUSE YOUR WERE A GIRL! Well, I'm pretty sure over the last 48 years you should have probably gotten over it.

Spending most of a week inside because of sub-freezing to sub-zero temperatures sucks. But putting on wool socks as you get out of bed on a cold morning is a good thing.

What doesn't suck: Being 52 and engaged for the first time. It's an odd juxtaposition, being happier than ever in my personal life while horrified and terrified by what this country is becoming.

Other things that don't suck: two snow days in about two weeks here after not really seeing any snow for a few years; my favorite taco place; long hikes on the Appalachian Trail; making a really good soup; life without social media.

Congrats, John!

Bad: Second everything posted upthread.

Good: Mom and Dad finally decided on an independent living community. Just got back from a week-long cruise to Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Costa Maya. And Florida's weather returns by the end of the weekend. My health seems good. I should get the clubs out on Thursday. And pitchers and catchers report in three weeks.
