Things that suck...and one thing that helps when things suck

Suck: God, Carolina is bad. Not looking forward to next week.

Doesn't suck: I'll always have Cameron and the FF in 2022.

Bad: Second everything posted upthread.

Good: Mom and Dad finally decided on an independent living community. Just got back from a week-long cruise to Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Costa Maya. And Florida's weather returns by the end of the weekend. My health seems good. I should get the clubs out on Thursday. And pitchers and catchers report in three weeks.
Truck Day giggles at pitchers and catchers. The Red Sox truck seems to make it a multi-day event though.

Suck: don't have anything today.

Doesn't suck: That I don't have anything today that sucks. And, the local small-town company we hired to put in a fire pit patio in the back yard of our new house did a fine forking job all day today. It'll finish tomorrow, and gas company hooks it up with a direct line on Thursday.

Bring on the beers.

Being unemployed sucks. The penny pinching, the late nights doing Uber Eats deliveries, the need to spread applications out across the web like machine gun fire, the gnawing doubt that you'll make it back to the level you were at and the dark moments of wishing you could have held on to the old gig, toxic as it was.

What doesn't suck is nailing your phone interviews on back-to-back Fridays and the second one ending with a job offer for the field you were most recently in, with bump in pay and title to boot. That doesn't suck at all.

Thing that sucks: Everything JD Vance. I'm reminded he is a carbon copy of the husband of my wife's former boss, both of whom I hated.

Thing that doesn't suck: That Susanna Hoffs video.

Among the things that suck:

Gadget, my oldest and most favorite whippet, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease/protein losing nephrology last October, with a prognosis of six months. I think the prognosis is going to prove accurate, if not optimistic.

Kip, my retired and last horse, colicked on January 29 and was euthanized on January 30.

Opie, Gadget's nephew and my amazing partner in crime, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last week.

Things that don't suck:

I have a beautiful seven month old puppy, Fly, Gadget's half brother and cousin or something of Opie's, so the pedigrees that make those two dogs so special will continue to live in my house in him.

Gadget is going to live long enough for his breeder to see him again before he dies.

I have access to and can afford radiation treatment for Opie, which may buy him one to two good years.

The power of denial.

I knew about the Dope, didn't know about the others. I'm so sorry Amy. You deserve all the "doesn't suck" things you can gather right now.

Jesus, Amy. I'm so sorry. I went through cancer with a bichon in the fall. I don't think I'll ever get over losing that dog.
