2017 college football coaching carousel thread

It wouldn't hurt, if we call and he says no or we get no reply it's not really a waste. We got enough talent to start off on the right foot and the east division is kind of down. His offense works against the SEC. It is worth a call.
If he's not leaving, why is it worthwhile to pursue Dabo? Waste of valuable time, right?

If Harbaugh gets a call from Indy, he should take it. At this point he needs a big year. I don't know if 8-4 would be enough in his fourth season, and just to get that he would need a win against ND, Wisconsin, OSU, Penn State or Michigan State, barring an upset elsewhere on their schedule.

There are two buyouts. One the school owes the coach if he is fired without cause, the other the coach owes the school if he leaves for another job.

FSU owes Jimbo $39 million if he is fired. It's considerably less if he leaves to take another job, something like $10 million.

Likewise, Nick Saban gets $26 million if Alabama fires him. If Saban leaves to take another job, he owes nothing.

Roger that. Thanks.

I'm a Gator fan, really don't want Chip Kelly, he's all speed not a combination of power and speed. Scott Frost ain't bad, but can he recruit players with route and control them is my question. Just get a coach who cares about halftime adjustments and stop the Tebow bullshirt, throw left, right, never downfield. I say shoot for the moon and call Dabo Swinney. He not leaving, but worth a trip. Dan Mullen just needs more talent, we got that.

Why in the name of Tebow would Dabo Swinney leave Clemson -- a program he built from nothing to what appears to be a perennial power now, that stuck by him through some lean years, that he clearly enjoys and made his own, where he's a legend whose job should be safe for at least a decade -- put all that behind to move to the dumpster fire at Florida?
The only reasons Swinney should even take that call is to wring some money out of Clemson, or if he's having a bad day and needs a really, really good laugh.

heck, even Dan Mullen ought to think twice about it. He's in the same boat on a smaller scale at Mississippi State. If he keeps winning 7-9 games every year he'll survive the occasional 5-6 win season and have a job for life. Florida is a place where if you don't win a national championship by the end of year two you're on the hot seat, and they are a long way away from being able to do that.
Florida is certainly a more marquee program than Mississippi State, but it's not necessarily a better job. Florida has entered Texas territory in that the team is not nearly as good as its fans think it is, and any A-list coach should say, "Are you kidding me?" when they come a'courting.
