2024-25 College Basketball Thread

Mizzou loses 85-81 tonight at Tennessee. The Vols had an unusually good night shooting threes (10 of 15) when they're a 30 percent team on the season. If the Vols shoot to their average, Mizzou wins. These teams are pretty darn even, which to a Mizzou fan is like manna from heaven that we're worried will turn into toads raining down.

Don't know where that came from. Just know it won't be there in Norman or Lexington or College Station or Oxford or pretty much anywhere after March 15.

Meanwhile . . . I'll take their word for it, I guess.

My rule of thumb is if you need two or more qualifiers to describe a record it isn't worth the effort needed to type it out. But that is a helluva game.

Mizzou looked pretty unstoppable in the first half and then the Vols caught fire out of the locker room. Such a fun league, give or take a few dozen frustrating referee decisions every night.

Ah, the return of the joint men's and women's record book.

"this century"

It's less than 25 years old. It's not like this is 1997 and you have 96.8 years of data to compare to. Good grief.

I'm going to disagree to a point here. I agree that dragging that stat out to blocks/steals/very exact shooting percentages diluted its impressiveness. But 25 years is a worthy timeframe for first time since/ever stats.

Stanford women lost by 49 points at Notre Dame on Thursday night, its worst-ever defeat. They are 3-8 in the ACC, 11-11 overall, and won't make the NCAAs, barring an ACC tournament miracle or some outright shenanigans by the Selection Committee.

Tara read the room pretty well. She wanted nothing to do with the ACC, the ridiculous travel schedule, and NIL. Her name is on the court, is legacy is intact and that's good enough.
