Favorite band/musician you "might" worry others think is uncool

Love me some Fitz and the Tantrums. They've gone way away from the sound of their first album, which had a really distinct, old school late 60s Motown vibe, and evolved to a much more synthy pop sound. Great beats and hooks, though, that the ad departments of the world seem to love. I think about a dozen of their songs have been used in commercials for one thing or another, and "Handclap" is becoming a rotation regular at stadiums.
I kind of respect how big of a sellout they are in that regard. They were asked about it once and the lead singer was basically like, "Yeah, we're in this to make money. We'll license to anybody except maybe Halliburton or somebody like that."
Anyway, they're very much a pop band now that people might think is a bit schmaltzy (especially their latest stuff). But I really dig 'em.

That first album was amazing. "The Walker" is a strong No. 3 behind the two you posted (and a music bed for what seemed like two dozen commercials).

I hate/love (depending on which way you go) the idea of The Gaslight Anthem on this thread.

But I LOVE The Gaslight Anthem. I ride with Brian Fallon forever.

"The Walker" is a great song, too. Part of what makes me prefer their second album to the first is that "The Walker," "Fools Gold" and "Out of My League" are three killer singles. But the two albums are just so musically different that it's hard to compare them. They almost sound like two different bands.

When I tell people I like Fitz and the Tantrums I usually get a blank, "Who are they?" look. I just have to tell them that you've probably never heard of them by name, but I guarantee you've heard at least one of their songs in a commercial or a movie or a TV show.

Is it really a "THEY" at this point?

That is a point of contention among Dan fans, some are very pashionate about it.

I found that out firsthand a few years after Becker pashed. I took the position Fagan should tour as Donald Fagan and the beatdown commenced.

Some personal news to share with the clash, I made a career transition.

I am now a sound engineer.

Protip: Don't Pish me off or you will get lost in the mix:

Only the sound engineer stopped believin' in Journey as they roused a crowd in St. Paul
REVIEW: A too-loud bash drum drowned out Neal Schon's guitar heroics at Xcel Energy Center.

Deen is a monster. His double bash powered so many of the early Shrapnel shred albums from Tony Macalpine and Marty Friedman. I wish Wild Dogs' Reign of Terror was readily available.

No, I did not go looking for this. It was in Tom Nichols' feed. Since the song is mentioned on this thread I'm drooping this here.

At the very beginning of the clip, Rupert says the line originally was "if you like Humphrey Bogart"

Hit play, you know you want to

Serious love for The Gap Band right now. Dancing with the headphones on outside in the RV park last night while Gwen was on a Zoom chat. Outstanding (and a dozen other knockout songs).
Oh man you blew my mind, no wait "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"!! Never thought I'd see a Gap Band reference here. l

If only I saw this "Early in the Morning"!!

You made my day.

Late to this thread. Tom Cochrane has never been the epitome of cool, but back in the late 80s I wore out my cashette of the Victory Day album (impossible to find streaming -- though you can cobble together the tracks from YouTube):

I'm not even Canadian, but the modern rock station was 89X in Windsor.

And for the people who mentioned Slade -- this is a treasure in its own unique way. A full-length biopic of the band Slade. Starring Slade as Slade (technically as the fictional band "Flame"). If nothing else, it's very evocative of the northern midlands in mid-70s pre-Thatcher Britain. No "Run Runaway" -- it's from 8 years earlier:
