2024-25 College Basketball Thread

This feels like one of those times they let the news guys cover sports.
Does he not know that Chris Beard has coached in a national championship game not that long ago?

Somehow, Cory Alexander seems to be on a college or NBA game somewhere on an ESPN network nightly, so clearly, he works hard ... but my nuanced opinion of his on-air work is that he sucks.
You are correct, sir.
He's the most egregious homer in the history of homers. And I say this as a fellow UVa alum.
He also talks too much.

Boise just beat New Mexico in the MWC semis. Lobos are 26-7 with OOC wins over UCLA and VCU and conference wins over USU (2), Boise and CSU. Gonna be hard to keep them out.

USU is 26-6 and has beaten St. Mary's, Boise, North Texas, Iowa, and CSU. Pretty solid resume too.

Chapel Hill will bring back Hubert Davis for next season, but it's now a question of when -- not if -- he gets fired.

This game was a culmination of all that has gradually gone askew with the program -- which was masked by a fluke deep run in 2022 which is all that prevents the program from having 3 of four years being a bubble team or out of the tourney entirely. A roster that most coaches would kill to have which plays without sustained effort -- and without much individual improvement over the course of the year. A team prone to slow starts all year long, reflecting an absence of preparation. An offense that too frequently consists of four players watching the fifth dribble.

And the ACC is in such a precarious spot in so many reasons that a teetering UNC-CH program actually harms the entire conference. The conference needs its hoops tentpoles -- and all due respect to NCSU and UVa, but these are UNC-CH, Duke, Louisville and Syracuse -- to be sturdy. U of L has shown how quickly the right coach can marshal a turnaround. But 'Cuse and UNC-CH are suffering from slow bleeds. And no one has picked up the slack for the fades of Miami, FSU, UVa and Notre Dame, among others.

This wont happen, b/c most ADs are idiots and just want to win the press conference, but the Woodson/Davis/Autry/Howard/etc failures should stop schools from hiring former great players. They are almost always terrible forking coaches. Shaheen Holloway is an exception but Seton Hall is a MAAC school disguised a Big East program so he'll probably get run from there too.
