2024-25 College Basketball Thread

UNC's athletic director heading the committee that selected UNC over IU sitting in Carmel, Indiana, is incredible.

"Uh, I am not going to talk about that. Here is a black man as a meat shield to take the heat for it."

The NCAA is AMAZING. And then Jay Wright says, "Great answer!"

This could be an SNL skit.

Nobody has ever looked or acted more like a Bubba than Bubba.

Yep, the comment Cunningham made on the selection show about the Memphis-UAB game impacting the last team in — but not VCU-Mason — said it all. I don't know that Mason would have stayed at the 11, but it's possible the committee would have just slotted in the Patriots; it's been known to do that sort of thing with Sunday spots.

As we saw today with Michigan, the committee gets lazy on Sunday.

VCU was most definitely not in without winning today. That much is clear

South Carolina looked bored to be a top regional seed.

There seems to be some sentiment that South Carolina was POed to not be the overall No. 1 seed. In hindsight, the reaction might not have been complacency but a silent stew ... bordering on anger.

If so, the NCAA just helped ESPN stir the pot.

Not sure they have that much of a case. And, given that Pat Kelsey and that staff have picked that program up so quickly, can they not enjoy the quick journey back?

(Read in some places that Jon Scheyer should have gotten more recognition for ACC COY. Take one look at what Kelsey did at Louisville, given where that program was a year ago, and keep making that argument with a straight face.)

they may not. But 23rd in NET and kenpom, 13th in ap poll. Made acc tourney final and lost to no 2 overall seed screams better than being viewed as team 32-36

As long as we are vilifying undeserving teams, don't forget Xavier sitting at a fat 1-9 in quadrant 1 wins. Between them and UNC that just became the most irrelevant stat imaginable … at least until the committee uses it to bar some unwashed team from entering the gates next season.

UC San Diego was getting kicked to the curb without a moment's thought if they lost last night.

The non-P4 members of the Selection Committee cower worse than the Democratic House and Senate leadership. At least the small-school members of the SC have some poser.

And Kendall Gill is an absolute toady and tool.

Not only did UNC get in, but Texas as well.
Lunardi had both of them out, IIRC.

Do what I did after he completely blew it in regards to the ACC last season – ignore him.

If the WWL wants to build him up, that's their problem. Not mine. Feel free to join the club. If he's the decent guy people say he is off-camera, good for him and good for those who work with him. Doesn't mean I have to make him the first bit relevant.

I never understood that, especially in the women's tournament. South Carolina is a No. 1 seed. They're at home for the first two rounds, and as close as they can get for the next two. Barring a catastrophe, they'll be at least in the Elite Eight before they face a team at their level.
So who gives a ship if you're the No. 1 overall seed or No. 4? The road still leads you to the same place regardless.
