The worst pop song ever

I'm thoroughly sick of "Smoke". However, if the opening organ chords of "Lazy" begin to unspool from my speakers, I'll always perk up. "Highway Star" and "Space Truckin'" are pretty good as well.

Besides, it's the music of my youth. I was 15 when I went to that concert.

"Lazy" is my favorite from this Deep Purple version. Here's the first Deep Purple tune that ever impressed me (I probably heard "Hush" on Top 40). Funny that they had to ignominiously cut two band members to produce a pretty similar sound. But that reveals my other prejudice about the band.

In the late '80s, the guitar store I frequented had a printed sign hanging by the amps that read, "NO SMOKE ON THE WATER." Later, somebody hand-wrote "also no Sweet Child O' Mine."

Some good submissions so far. Of those mentioned, I think We Didn't Start the Fire is the clear winner. Lots of Smoke on the Water-like hyperbole too. Tempted? That's a legitimately good song. Some others, like Walking on Sunshine or Mmbop are doing Pop right, but you might not like Pop. I'd vote for:

But these were songs that were released as singles. I don't think this ever had a 45.
