2024 NBA playoffs thread

Surprised Adrian Griffin hasn't been rumored anywhere. He hasn't even been hired as an assistant.

Had gotten excited for Hurley but deep down didn't really think he'd leave.

How I'm coping as a Lakers fan:

Three most famous times a coach turned them down are:
--Tark in 1979.
--Coach K in 2004.
--Ty Lue in 2019.

They won a title in 1980. They won a title in 2009. They won a title in 2020. So, if my calculations are correct, they'll win a title in, oh, 2026. Congrats, J.J.

It was a no-win for Hurley to go to the Lakers. LeBron is at the back-end of his career and will likely retire at the end of his contract (I'm assuming he renegotiates for an extension when he can to max out his value) and AD is only as good as his health takes him, which God only knows is not going to hold up much longer. This means the Lakers are going to have to build back (better?) in the next two-to-three years assuming LeBron and/or AD don't suffer something career ending. Would you want to be that coach who has the pressure of the Lakers, the pressure of getting LeBron one more ring and the pressure of rebuilding the roster? The next guy is getting blamed one way or another. If he wants out of college, there are softer landing spots to get his feet wet in the pro game than the Lakers. And there's likely to be some good gigs opening in the next year or two depending how long certain coaches want to ride things out.

Getting mid-tier pay for 6 years to listen to and endure LeBron's passive/aggressive tactics is not enough (plus look at how he ran Blatt out then Vogel and Ham). I'm sure that Hurley has seen Calipari and Self get just as much (if not more) than that when they were wanted so he knows the market's going to boom for him after B2B wins and he doesn't have to take LA.

Man, the Lakers are cheap, they didn't even offer Hurley Monty Williams pay (Kenny Atkinson is too smart, he's not going to that sh*tshow).

Wife made the right call. Won't be any banners raised in The Arena Formerly Known As Staples anytime soon.

I'm inclined to agree. I think Hurley would probably rather be the king of college hoops than just another NBA coach. And as successful as he has been, I think he might face a really hard transition to the NBA.

I will say this, though: the Laker job comes with a big safety net for a guy like Hurley, because he could be the worst coach in the history of the league and people would still blame LeBron once he gets fired.
